There's been quite a change in our world the last (almost) two years. It's been crazy to say the least. I hope you are all well and enjoying retirement.
I, Debbie Tuberdyke, had the pleasure of working with Diane Skovenski and the HTA for many years. She has done a phenomenal job being the retiree rep and being a member of the Hamburg Steering Committee. I want to thank her for all the hard work she has done for us.
Diane has turned over her position on the HTA as a retiree rep to me. John Mrozek is also a retiree rep. We both attend the HTA meetings, monthly. We will be keeping you up to date on activities, etc. that are happening within the HTA.
SOCIAL EVENTS: Before the pandemic, the HTA had many social activities planned, but there were very few retirees that attended. It would be great to get some newer and older retirees to come to some of the functions that will be planned (it has been limited this past year and a half due to the pandemic). I will be posting events as they come up. Beth Walters is in charge. If interested in any of the events I post, please contact her for more information: Her email is: [email protected]
MONTHLY MINUTES: Continue to read the HTA minutes monthly. That will give you insight as to what is going on in the district.
STEERING COMMITTEE: The steering committee will be meeting again in January. At this time, they will be planning the May luncheon. I will keep you posted! If anyone is interested in being involved in this committee, please send me an email: [email protected]
We urge all retired HTA members to participate in the Retiree Unit of the HTA. We worked hard to obtain the salary and other contract benefits during our working careers. Now we have much to be concerned about: protecting our Pension, changes in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, the tax cap and other mandates that affect our colleagues and the entire educational structure. We need to stay involved and work together to protect our benefits and the future of public education.

NYSUT BENEFITS: In order to avail yourself of NYSUT benefits such as car, home and life insurance, legal aid, social services, and buying programs you must be a member of the HTA Retiree Unit.
Cooperation with NYSUT political action movements and help in implementing local actions that affect the Hamburg Schools, its teachers and retirees is a major goal. Members will be alerted to important notices from NYSUT. This unit includes ONLY teachers, nurses/technology and teacher aides. All HTA board minutes and other information on the union, union activities and resources are available on Hamburg Teachers Association Local 2702 website.
