2020-21 Procedures for Identity Breach

NYS has just set up a new method of reporting unemployment fraud due to identity theft. As soon as possible and as a victim of identity theft -NYS unemployment fraud, you should file on line as follows:
“It is the most efficient way to report ID theft. Please complete the online reporting form at on.ny.gov/uifraud. No further action needs to be taken once the form is completed and submitted by the employee. Employees might still receive correspondence which may even include a bank card. Those letters can be ignored and the bank card can be shredded.”

NYSUT staff has conversed with Jacqueline Kagan, the Director of the Investigations Unit at the NYS Department of Labor regarding the flurry of Unemployment Insurance fraud impacting public employees, including many of our members. Here is the protocol to be followed should you learn of a breach:
